Things to look forward to in London in 2017

How many of you have been suffering from a serious case of the blues this week? If it isn’t the weather it’s the new year’s resolutions that we’re struggling to stick to but it stops here! Before you consider emigrating until the summer we have an alternative solution, we have comprised a list of things to look forward to with your friends and family. Beat the January blues by enjoying everything that 2017 has to offer in London. We have found some of the weird and wonderful events that are taking place throughout the capital this year.

January

You might not know that 2017 is the Chinese New Year of the Rooster and this year it will be celebrated for the second time in London from January 19th to February 2nd. The Magical Lantern Festival is not to be missed, fusing art, heritage and culture with beautifully sculpted lanterns that will light up the skies. The festival will include rides, games, food and drink and of course spectacular lanterns.

February

Refusing to let the winter beat them, thousands of runners will brave the cold to support Cancer Research this February. The London Winter Run takes place on Sunday 5th February taking in the sights and sounds of the city whilst raising money for a great charity.

March

Spring is in the air on the water as The Head of the River Race is being held on Saturday 25th March (provisional) from Mortlake to Putney on the Tideway in London. You’ll watch over 400 crews of eights race to become the winners of one of London’s highest participation events.

April

Staying on the water but with a slightly different boat this time we are swapping our oars for sails at the Tall Ships Regatta on the 13th to 16th April. Spend your Easter weekend with a fleet of over 30 Tall Ships before they set sail for Canada.

May

For three days in May the Museums across London will explode into life! Museums at Night is a festival where local museums open their doors after hours, allowing you a different perspective of visiting a London museum, gallery and heritage site.

June

Hurlingham Park in Fulham is the home of Chestertons Polo in the Park also known as the largest and most fun polo tournament in Europe. Set over three days teams from across the world will compete in a series of games of Polo and you could be there to take it all in.

July

Only the famous Alexandra Palace could host a unique, non-motorised racing event like the Red Bull Soapbox Race. The international event invited amateur drivers race homemade soapbox vehicles, sounds like fun? You can register to take part or just enjoy the race from the grounds of the Palace.

August

Every August Somerset House is turned into a giant open air cinema as it presents two classic, cult and contemporary films. There’s something special about watching a movie under the stars, making it a great summer experience for you and your friends.

September

For those of you who, like us, love architecture and design September welcomes the annual Open House London weekend, a small, not-for-profit organisation to promote public awareness and appreciation of the capital’s building design and architecture.

October

You are invited to attend the biggest Oktoberfest event in the UK by joining over 50,000 guests at London Oktoberfest in Millwall Park. Enjoy authentic German beer and food and of course a good sing along from 28th September to 8th October.

November

Take in over 125 years of motoring including veteran, vintage, classic and modern-day cars at the Regent Street Motor Show on Saturday 4th November. Motoring enthusiasts gather for the annual free event showing the cars of the past, present and future.

December

December is simply magical in London and you will have a choice of celebrations to enjoy, from Christmas markets to Carol services.

2017 will be over in the blink of an eye, make the most of each month by planning something special, whether it’s a day out or simply time with your family.
