Do you know the secret behind surviving the first night in your new home? Well, it’s down to one thing, a ‘First Night Box’. If you haven’t heard of one yet you’ll be passing on this new essential house moving tip to all of your friends! A first night box is exactly what it says on the tin, a special box that is loaded last or travels with you to include essential items that you will need on your first day/night in your new home. Moving is tiring enough so instead of searching through boxes for a mug or some toilet roll your first night box will have everything you need.
Coffee Break
Upon arriving at your new home, before you start to unpack you’ll need a coffee break which also means you’ll need to get your hands on your kettle, tea and coffee and milk. You can pick up some milk from your new local shop but the rest you’ll need to pack, this includes a kettle, a couple of mugs, your drink of choice and squash for the kids.
Keep it clean
Although the previous owners are supposed to clean the property before they leave sometimes it doesn’t hurt to give it a quick once over before you start to unpack. In your first night box, you can include the basic cleaning equipment of some multi-purpose spray and a cloth. If you’re particularly OCD when it comes to cleaning you can add some bleach, window cleaner and bin bags.
Useful utensils
From bed frames to wardrobes you’ll need a few tools to help you put together your furniture for your first night, along with a couple of sets of cutlery for your first meal. Other useful and essential utensils are your phone charger and a torch.
What’s for Dinner?
As well as packing some small snacks for throughout the day you’ll need to think about what you’re going to eat on your first night. Instead of cooking, treat the family to the local takeaway from their menu that you’ve already prepacked! Depending on what you order you might need some plates, a few forks or just your fingers!
Entertainment Package
Some people like to include the tv remote in their first night box, as funny as this might sound we think it’s a great idea! Once the first day of packing is over you’ll need and want to relax, other ideas for some entertainment are a family board game, good book or watching a film on your tablet.
Freshen Up
At the end of a very long but exciting day have a think about what toiletries you will all need. Washing necessities should include, towels, shower gel, toothbrushes and toothpaste. We also recommend you bring a few rolls of toilet roll to pop in each bathroom, this could possibly be the most important item in your first night box!
If you’re moving home next week, next month or next year and want to ensure a stress-free first night believe us when we say your first night box is going to be a life saver! What would your first night box include?
