Although our branches are based in Harringay, Palmers Green and Highbury, we consider our home to be the whole of North London. We could tell you about the house prices and history of an area but we know what you want to know is what it’s like to live there? Our team live and work in North London and they’d like to show you around some of their favourite places.
Islington – Not the 80’s film
Islington is a place that many families call home, the Georgian and early Victorian houses as well as new developments combine to offer the perfect North London lifestyle. With wide leafy streets, ‘secret’ pubs and bars, clubs, and venues that regularly draw A-list names in theatre, comedy, dance and music we have many favourite places here. Martin Arlington, who works as the Lettings Manager in our new Highbury branch recommends his top choice for lunch in Islington, “It has to be The Breakfast Club. Not the 80’s film, although it is a classic, you need to try breakfast at lunchtime. Well why not? We are in Islington, after all! It’s like an all-day diner with an emphasis on comfort food, if you love breakfast, no matter what time of the day, head here as they have breakfasts from all around the world: a full English, American-style maple syrup pancakes or a Latin American breakfast burrito”
Finsbury Park – It’s all a bit theatrical
It’s not surprising that young professionals are attracted to Finsbury Park, they can be in central London in less than 15 minutes as well as having access to plenty of outdoor activities and a lively social life on their doorstep. Lettings Manager Catherin Holt shares a “must” place to visit for locals and visitors in Finsbury Park, “You can’t to visit Finsbury Park without going to La Porchetta, on Stroud Green Road. They have, without doubt, the best, and probably biggest, pizzas in London, if not Europe. They’re enormous, and the waiters love to show off by spinning them around. It’s part restaurant, part theatre really!” Catherine adds, “One of the things I love about Finsbury Park is that it’s such an ethnically diverse area, so has this cool cosmopolitan feel to it. There also some amazing restaurants and local shops, which sell all kinds of amazing, exotic food. You could pretty much work your way around the world food-wise here.”
Winchmore Hill – Gastropub and cakes for Kris
You will find our Head of Operations, Kris White, in our Palmers Green branch; however, Kris’ heart belongs in Winchmore Hill, where he was born and brought up. He shows us around his home and where he spends his weekends. “I probably shouldn’t admit it but I’m a regular at the King’s Head on Winchmore Hill, I’m not the only one at Anthony Pepe who likes to relax here though! The food is great, and it’s one of the few gastropubs in the area that has Sky Sports. It’s a good crowd and we always have a great night when we’re watching a game or popping in to check the results. It is often featured as one of the top 10 pubs in North London, and I’m not surprised.” Kris also shares Winchmore Hill’s hidden gem, “My mum would tell you Treacles Tea Room on the Green, their traditional teas and classic cakes are very popular. The local staff are always very friendly; it’s a great for families or a pot of tea as you watch the world go by.”
Stoke Newington – Confessions of a shopaholic
N16 is one of the most desirable postcodes in North London, Just down the road from Stoke Newington is our newest branch in Highbury; our Sales and Lettings Negotiator, Sophie, shares her own favourite places in and around the area. “I absolutely love Hub 100, which is this boutique fashion store divided across three buildings. Number 49 is where the women’s clothes are and at number 88 you’ll find the menswear. I like it because it stocks such a lot of different mid-range labels.” When taking a break from shopping, Sophie enjoys lunch at one of Stoke Newington’s quaint cafes, “I love the Haberdashery on Stoke Newington High Street. It’s a family run independent cafe, and the décor is as delicious as the food. It’s a nice place to just sit, have a quiet lunch and unwind over a coffee and cake.”
These areas are just a snippet of what North London has to offer and your family, if you’re thinking of moving but want to talk it through with a professional with passion our teams are available in branch, over the phone or online.
