There’s something special about ice skating at Christmas, it somehow makes this magical time of year come alive. Add this injection of Christmas spirit to a backdrop of stunning locations across London and you have the beginning of a very merry Christmas. It’s time to get your skates on and do your best Torvill and Dean impression as we glide around some of London’s most popular Ice Rinks.

Alexandra Palace Ice Rink

Home of this year’s X Factor boot camp, Alexandra Palace is also where you can enjoy ice skating all year round. As one of London’s most iconic landmarks, the venue is a stunning location for skating especially during this time of year. As well as parties and ice discos the Palace ice rink also offers professional ice skating lessons so you can show off to your friends next Christmas!

Broadgate Ice Rink

Head south to Exchange Square where you can skate until 11pm every day. The open-air rink is surrounded by pop-up food fairs that include Urban Food Fest who serve snacks while you skate! Wrap up warm and enjoy tasty beef burgers and hot dogs, if you need a hand skating you can hire a cute penguin skating aid to guide you around the rink!

Hampton Court Palace Ice Rink

There aren’t many backdrops like Henry VIII’s sixteenth-century home, turning your day or evening of skating into a very special treat. Surrounded by history during a day visit to the Palace you are invited to indulge in a majestic afternoon tea as you take in the spectacular views. As the sun goes down the rink is lit up and romance is in the air you might even hear some carol singing to really get you into the Christmas spirit.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

Far more than just an ice rink the magical wonderland includes, an ice bar, circus, Christmas show and big wheel. As the largest open-air ice rink in the UK, there’s no better atmosphere than skating around Hyde Park’s Victorian bandstand, along with the other activities available there really is now better day or evening out this winter.

National History Museum Ice Rink

Celebrate Christmas in the setting of Alfred Waterhouse’s spectacular National History Museum, enclosed by trees covered in fairy lights and the aroma of mulled wine and toasted marshmallows. Enjoy a warm drink and soak up the atmosphere before you skate in the Café Bar which offers you a bird’s eye view of the pretty rink and fairground carousel.

Somerset House Ice Rink

From skate schools, to club nights Somerset House is the perfect way to spend a winter’s day in London. If you’re looking for something extra special you can indulge in one of their Skate Packages that includes a mug of Hot Chocolate or glass Champagne to greet you after your time on the ice. The impressive 18th Century courtyard welcomes thousands of visitors each year but at Christmas, the ice rink transforms the glorious backdrop into one of the best festive outings in the capital.

Thames Frost Fair Christmas Party

Last but certainly not least, you no longer have to be on dry land to ice skate this Christmas. On board the Harmony Boat is a twenty-meter ice rink, a unique experience where you can take in the sights of London whilst elegantly gliding around this floating ice rink. Of course, the river cruise doesn’t stop there, as well a Gin Cocktail on arrival the evening is filled with festive canapes and even a live band.
