As Christmas approaches we often find ourselves talking to our friends or work colleagues about ‘what Christmas is like in our house’. And although we on the whole celebrate in the same way traditions and little Christmas Day rituals will differ from family to family. It all starts with the tree, whether you opt for a fake or a fragrant real pine tree, how and when you decorate and your finishing touches mean that behind every front door there is a special and unique Christmas taking place. On this magical of days, we are going to let you peak inside the homes of our team as they share their precious memories of their typical Christmas.
Sophie our Sales & Lettings Negotiator works in our new branch in Highbury and laughs as she shares her Christmas story, “Our Christmas morning and much of the day is similar to a traditional Christmas however, once the presents have been opened and the turkey has been eaten we sit down together and open one final present, this present is from, “The Tree”. It seems silly now, saying it out loud, but my mum has always got everyone a small gift that says, ‘Merry Christmas from The Tree’.”
Sticking to a far more customary tradition, Lettings Manager Martin Arlington recalls never missing the Queen’s speech, “By 3pm on Christmas Day dinner must be over and presents must be opened as we all sit down to listen to the Queen’s speech. As a child I always remember my Grandad would usually be asleep before it’s finished and my Nan would be nudging him to stop snoring. Every year that we site down to watch the speech as a family this memory always brings a smile.”
Property Manager, Jayne Smith remembers her family Christmas’, “Each Christmas morning we would always go to our local pub whilst Mum started dinner, I was allowed a fizzy drink as I think Dad thought I couldn’t get much more excited! Another tradition in our family was to open presents after dinner, as you can imagine I hated waiting but now looking back it made Christmas day feel longer and I’m so glad we did!”
Lauren Benham is a Senior Lettings Negotiator in our Harringay branch, her Christmas morning is one that we can all relate to, “When I think of Christmas growing up the first thing I think of is closing my eyes saying to myself ‘I’m never going to fall asleep’ then, after what feels like moments later, opening my eyes and seeing my stocking at the end of my bed. I would creep into my sister’s bedroom and say, ‘he’s been!’ before going in to wake up our parents.”
Christmas Day at Senior Sales Negotiator, Andrew Gibbons’ house was filled with singing, laughter and chocolate! “Christmas is of course is the season for sharing, and I know my family would agree, and maybe even my dad! In my late teens I would go out with my mates for the usual festive drinks one returning home one Christmas Eve, I had the munchies but I longed for chocolate. I knew if I tucked into the treats in the fridge my mum would kill me, so my second idea seemed just genius. I had bought my dad some of his favourite chocolates, they were sat under the tree talking to me, and actually after a few beers those chocolates were screaming. Yes, I admit it, I opened the chocolates, grabbed a handful and wrapped it backed up somehow believing that what I did was absolutely fine. Next day it gave the family some huge laughs and a complete family joke.”
Sharing these stories around the office is a reminder that Christmas is mostly spent at home, homes that we sell, buy and rent to our clients every day. As well as being a family at Anthony Pepe we love seeing and hearing your stories and memories of Christmas, birthdays and much more in your new homes. Feel free to share your pictures of you making new memories in your homes on our Facebook or Twitter pages.
