6 Places you’re probably forgetting to clean

How clean is your home? It’s ok we’re not going to check but when it comes to selling you can be sure that potential buyers will! When your property is for sale you will want to make it as attractive as possible and the most cost-effective way to do this is to clean it thoroughly. Uncleanliness and clutter can distract a potential buyer and even affect the value of your home so once you’ve followed our tips pop your buyer’s hat on and take a walk through your home like it’s the first time.

We’re not here to add to your household chores but we are here to offer support and give advice about selling your home. Whether you’re preparing your home for sale or tidying for potential buyers there are several places in your home that you might be overlooking when it comes to cleaning.

Knobs, Handles, and Switches

You may think these are obvious places to clean but there are so many knobs, handles and switches in your home they’re frequently overlooked. These bacteria hotspots need to be wiped down regularly particularly before viewings as potential buyers will notice a grubby door handle or light switch as they wander through your home.

Kitchen Bin

You may have taken the rubbish out but thanks to lingering food odours you will also need to clean inside and behind the bin. Leftover food debris and bacteria can make their way into and around the bin area meaning it will need disinfecting prior to viewings.

Bathroom Décor

You may not think that you have much décor in your bathroom but when you consider the standard toothbrush holders, decorative accessories, towel racks and shelves there are several places that need attention. While you’re cleaning the usual places take the time to give all of these hidden spots a rubdown.

Washing Machine

The clothes that hang in your wardrobe may start to smell less than fresh which means it’s probably time to clean your washing machine. Susceptible to mould and mildew you can clean your washing machine by running a mixture of baking soda and white vinegar through a hot cycle.

Light Bulbs

Be honest, how often do you clean your light fixtures and bulbs? Attracting bugs and dust, although these fittings might be out of sight if spotted they could cause quite a bit of embarrassment not to mention being a fire hazard. Obviously, all lights must be turned off and left to cool down before gently wiping over with a damp cloth.

Pet Toys

You might love your pet but unfortunately, its toys carry a lot of germs, in fact, chew toys sit high on the list of dirtiest places in the home. Aside from washing the toys as much as possible, it’s a good idea to remove them out of sight during a viewing. If you have a family member or friend who can look after your pet or take them for a walk whilst potential buyers are around that’s even better.
