This week saw the first days of Advent, it’s the time of year when little kids (and big kids) get excited opening the window of their calendar to find out what shape their chocolate will be that day!  As it’s December we can all officially get into the Christmas spirit and so to begin the festivities we have created our very own 12 days of a North London Christmas!   You don’t have to stop and think about how you will enjoy this festive season as we have your social calendar all organised for you.

  1. Santa Dash

If you head to Muswell Hill on Saturday 12th December you will see hordes of Santas dashing through the streets raising money for the London Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy.  Starting at St James Square, each participant will receive a free Santa suit before they start their festive run for this great charity.

  1. Christmas Dinner

Although Christmas isn’t for a few weeks this doesn’t stop us from eating as many Christmas dinners as we can throughout the month! Your local pubs The Highbury Barn and The Bald Faced Stag have Christmas menus to tantalise your taste buds until Christmas Day.  Book your table for Christmas party or even celebrate Christmas day without the stress of cooking.

  1. Family Activity Day

Go crackers for Christmas with Alexandra Palace’s Learning & Community team as they host free family activity days at the ice rink this Christmas.  Create your own Ally Pally themed Christmas by learning about the stories behind the traditional crackers and party hats, as well as making your own to use on Christmas Day.

  1. Tottenham Winter Festival

Start your festivities with a band this weekend at the Tottenham Winter Festival, enjoy food, crafts and activities as well as performances from our local choirs.  A special guest will also make an appearance as the afternoon concludes with the turning on of the Christmas lights.

  1. The Park Panto

This year the Park Theatre brings you their adaptation of the tale of “Rapunzel” and their cast is led by Olivier-nominated West End star Rolan Bell.  This classic fairy-tale boasts an original musical score telling the story of Rapunzel and her Prince, set in the Mythical land of Waa.  Performances run until January 2nd giving you plenty of time to book your tickets to this magical experience.

  1. Mirror Mirror

With options of adult only or family friendly performances, the excellent Charles Court Opera present to you their alternative take on the well-known story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.  This year the legendary annual “Boutique panto” is being held at the King’s Head Theatre where you are warned to expect the unexpected as well as musical numbers, plenty of puns and some festive fun.

  1. Ice Skating

Following their sell-out sessions last year, the JW3’s Winter Ice Rink has returned to the Piazza at JW3.  Booking is advisable as beginners and professionals take to the ice for a fun day out with your family, friends or that special someone.  Ice-skating always fills us with Christmas spirit and you’ll be sure to have some laughs, as you not so elegantly glide around the rink.

  1. Christmas at the Movies

Your local cinemas are screening the latest movie releases, which include this year’s Christmas film, “Christmas with the Coopers”.  The Vue and Cineworld allow you to experience a film how it’s designed to be viewed as well as a fun afternoon or evening out during the Christmas period.  You may also decide to rent or buy your favourite Christmas movie as you snuggle up in front of the fire surrounded by the twinkling lights of your Christmas filled home.

  1. Enchanted Christmas House

Join Mrs Claus at the Enchanted Christmas House in Islington for a magical adventure as the Elves take you and your children on a musical tour around the house.  You will meet Santa’s little helpers as well as taking part in a number of different Christmas activities, after this fun filled day you are invited to watch the wonderful interactive Christmas Show.

  1. Islington Christmas Market

Returning for another year to the Islington Green, the Christmas Market will run until December 20th for you to enjoy the Christmas gifts, local food and festive fun that the 70 hand-picked stalls bring every week.  Entry to the market is free and you might even spot Santa at the market’s Grotto before he heads off back to the North Pole.

  1. Last Minute Christmas Shopping

Don’t worry if you’ve left your Christmas Shopping to the last minute The Mall Wood Green is open until 7.00pm during from Monday to Saturday giving you enough time to buy all of your Christmas treats.  After all, it wouldn’t be Christmas if we weren’t running around on Christmas Eve searching for that final gift!

  1. Christmas at Anthony Pepe
