It’s not just the kids who enjoy a sleepover but as adults, they are a little different, say goodbye to making dens for beds and we’re afraid top and tailing with your friends is a serious no no! Inviting friends to stay now means that you must prepare your guest bedroom but don’t be disheartened you can still add some fun to their visit! Obviously, you’ve made the bed and opened the curtains but what else can you do to transform your spare room into your guest room? We have shared some of our favourite additions to make your guests feel at home, they might even steal some of your little touches for their own home!
1. Wifi Password
Wherever you go these days you will be offered to use the venues internet, whether it’s your local pub or hair salon the wifi code will be shared so why not do the same for your house guests? You can even make a stylish framed print of your password to place in your home making your guests feel at welcome whilst removing that awkward, “can I connect to your wifi” conversation.
2. Access to Power
Technology has taken over most of our lives so it’s no wonder that your guest will want a plug socket close by to charge their phone or tablet. If you wanted to really impress your guest you could also provide an android or apple charger in their room, with over 40 million people in the UK using a smart phone it could be exactly what they need during their stay. We don’t know about you but a phone charger is often the item that we forget when staying away from home and let’s not forget about those impromptu overnight stays requiring you to sleep in your clothes, but at least your phone will be charged!
3. Bed Side Lamp
As much as clean bedding is kind of obvious in a guest bedroom a lamp might not be, yet it allows your guest to add a soft light to their room whilst they get ready for bed or perhaps read a book. A bed side lamp also gently adds to the atmosphere of your carefully chosen home interiors, lighting up the way to your guests’ room when ‘bed time’ approaches.
4. Towels
Clean towels actually have multiple uses, obviously, your guest will use them for washing but also they will fill the room with the smell of freshly washed linen. If you’re going for a touch of hotel luxury you may even hang a robe on the back of your guest room door, it’s sure to make a lasting impression on them and their stay with you.
5. Water
Nobody likes to creep back downstairs once everyone has gone to bed especially your house guests so to prevent this you can leave a bottle or jug of cold water along with a clean glass by the side of their bed. Not only is it thoughtful but it stops the awkwardness of your guests rummaging through your cupboards for a drink either late at night or early the following morning.
6. Magazines
Not that your company isn’t stimulating but some light reading material in your guest bedroom is a must. You can choose from gossip magazines to the latest Harry Potter book, express your personality or have some fun by places your favourite magazine, newspaper or book by the side of your guests’ bed.
7. Clock
Although you might think that everyone uses their smartphone to tell the time it’s a nice touch to include a (quiet) clock in your guest bedroom. Early rises might think twice about waking up the whole house if they can see the time!
8. Bathroom essentials
Not all guests have planned to stay at your house so it’s thoughtful to include some bathroom essentials in their room, this might include toothpaste and toothbrush, shower products or even ear plugs if you know that your other half has a tendency to snore!
9. Space & Storage
Whether they’re staying for a night or a week your guest will want to hang up their clothes, make sure there are hooks and hangers available for them to make themselves at home during their stay.
10. Treats
We’ve all heard of chocolates on the pillow but why not go a step further by placing some late night snacks in your guest bedroom? Midnight feasts aren’t just for kids, you and your guests can enjoy some sweets, popcorn or favourite chocolate before you say goodnight.
