About Kings Cross
Kings Cross in London has seen a great deal of development over the past few years. Step off the Eurostar and explore one of London’s most exciting areas.
“I can’t believe how much it’s changed!” That’s pretty much what everyone who’s been away from the city of London, for even as little as a year, says when they return. Regeneration really kicked off in the 1990s, since then, Kings Cross has flourished and blossomed into one of the coolest, hippest and most vibrant areas of London, shedding its old reputation as a rather seedy place, somewhere to be avoided.
Obviously, the area is best known for Kings Cross and St Pancras stations, which make it a brilliant place to live if you ever want to visit anywhere else. But there is much more to the area than trains and platforms.
The bars and pubs range from traditional to hip, and there’s every flavour of food you can imagine, from French and Italian, to British and Ethiopian cuisine.
There are a host of other things to do as well, with some of the best clubs, music venues and museums a mere stone’s throw away.
Our Favourite Places
James Haines is a Sales Manager in our new Highbury branch, he’s excited by the changes and future of Kings Cross.
What’s new in Kings Cross?
“After decades of being a hub for travellers, Kings Cross station is becoming a destination in its own right. You could spend a day here, happily browsing the glossy boutiques, shops (Whistles, MAC, Fortnum & Mason and Hamleys to name but a few), and chilling out in any number of bars and cafes. I really like Bar Pepito, an Andalucían sherry bar. VOC, modelled on a seventeenth-century punch house, is also worth a visit for the architecture alone.”
Do you have a favourite place to have a drink with your friends?
“The Booking Office is the place to go for cocktails. I don’t think there’s anywhere else in London that does better cocktails, plus it’s just such a great place to sit and soak up the atmosphere, whether you’re in the lovely former booking hall, with its dark wood and soaring gothic arches, or outside overlooking the train tracks. It’s also a great star spotting venue.”
What excites you the most about the future of Kings Cross?
“Attracting young professionals and overseas students with its excellent transport links, thriving business community and lively cultural scene makes Kings Cross a really exciting place to live.”
Our favourite street is The Regents Quarter
The Local Community
With 50 new buildings, 20 new streets and 10 new public squares, it is a dynamic and exciting place to be. To give you an idea, Google’s UK office is due to move here in 2016, The Guardian newspaper headquarters is already here, and the Eurostar now connects London with mainland Europe.
So as you can probably tell, this is a vibrant and fast-paced place to be, and prices are on the rise. What’s exciting is that a lot of the new homes being built in this vibrant new neighbourhood have been designed by some of the UK’s leading architectural practices and interior designers.
If you prefer old to new, there are some beautiful buildings here, and hidden gems such as Barnsbury and Somers Town, where you can find quiet, leafy streets and secret gardens that make you feel like you’re a million miles away from the 24/7 bustle of Kings Cross central, even though you’re actually only a few minutes away.
We understand how important your child’s education is to you. If you are new to the area, we can advise you on properties within a particular catchment area.
